Key Stage 4 – GCSE Business Studies

Business at Stockport School

Students at Stockport School are provided with the fantastic opportunity to engage with the rigorous and engaging AQA GCSE Business Studies curriculum. We explore real business issues and how businesses work, giving students a palpable insight into the entrepreneurial world. This exploration takes place in the context of authentic business and economic events, developing students’ abilities to apply their business acumen to genuine working environments. This highly motivating course is designed and delivered to give students the knowledge and skills needed for a successful career in industry.

What will be studied?

During year 10, students will study the following:

• Business in the real world
• Influences on business
• Human resources
• Organisational structures

During year 11, students will study the following:

• Marketing
• Finance
• Intensive revision programme

Assessment

2 written exams (both taken at the end of year 11):

Paper 1: Influences of operations and HRM on business activity (50%)

Paper 2: Influences of marketing and finance on business activity (50%)

If your child is absent for any lessons, they can access materials via the Firefly page as stated above, with an expectation that any missed work is caught up on.

Homework

Homework is set in line with school policy for KS4 students. 

New tasks will appear every Monday via Firefly.

Year 10 Students must complete the assigned task on Seneca Learning (online resource.) The assignments align with what has been studied in class the week previously in order to consolidate learning.

Year 11 Students must complete the assigned exam questions posted as a task on Firefly. Paper copies may be available in school where finances allow.
